Breakthrough in Adversity

I had some good news this week! A consulting client sent me a text with an amazing financial testimony – they are out of debt! In the middle of this Covid-19 crisis, they had been displaying grit, determination and perseverance in the financial challenges that they had been working on for years. In the midst of this crisis, it all came together for them and they were able to pay off all of the debt in their company. Amazing, right?! Here we are in the middle of a crisis and people are experiencing breakthroughs!

What goals are YOU contending for during this time? I want to encourage you to keep being determined, to dig in for your grit and breakthrough will happen for you.

One thing I have learned through navigating several hard times in business myself is this: God wants us to take our goals and partner with Him for breakthrough. If we have a goal and expect God to do the work while we sit back, I would say that is a dream, not a goal. You are basically asking God to do your work for you. Yikes! Then, even if you did receive the breakthrough, you would not know how to manage it, because you didn’t do the work to get it.

Let’s look at Noah as an example of partnering with God to meet our goals. I just think it’s hilarious. There’s this dude minding his own business, and God tells him to build an ark. This thing didn’t take a week to build. Back in those days, there were no power tools, there were no cranes, there was no rigging, no scaffolding. Years of listening to his neighbors and friends watch and gossip about his “idea”. What if Noah had just said, “Well, okay. God, you’re wanting to save the world with an ark. I’m going to dream about it being done and hope you show up to make it happen.” No, he was active and willing to show up and work.

It takes a whole bunch of faith and character to stay with our long-term goals, especially amidst adversity. We each have the ability to deepen our faith and strengthen our character by choosing to partner with God in the hard times. Proverbs 3:5-6 is a verse that speaks to me: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.” When I am facing adversity, I do my best to not trust in my own understanding of what has happened, but stay the course towards the goals God has given me. In each situation that I’m facing, I try to submit to God and trust that He will make my path straight.

Will you partner with Him to contend for your breakthrough? I believe that the text from my friend was just the beginning – I am excited to hear your testimonies too.  I would love for you to share your thoughts, breakthroughs and testimonies in the comments below!

  1. Bob, thank you for sharing this. God also brought a breakthrough to our company in the midst of this crisis. Our company works to streamline the production process for Film, TV, Commercials, and other entertainment projects as well as process their payroll. When Covid hit, all those projects shut down, but God did not shut down. He canceled a big debt we had. We also needed downtime to upgrade somethings and were gonna stop taking on new clients, but when Covid hit, although the downtime was more than we wanted, the downtime still helped us catch up on a lot of features we were building. Lastly, most of our competition uses paper and pen for timecards and other processes. However, now to the Covid-19 pandemic, all productions are required to use digital timecards and be paperless as much as possible. Our product is all done digitally on a phone or computer and involves no paperwork at all. So we find ourselves being much more sought after now more so than ever before. So what seemed like a huge blow to our industry with all sets being shut down, has turned into a lot of potential for our service. We are so thankful that God works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Only God can use a horrible event like Covid and work out blessing for His servants during it.

    1. That’s an incredible testimony! He is in the details! SO much breakthrough through adversity – blessings to you and your business!!

  2. Thank you Bob,
After 30 years in business, good and not so good times, Jesus is always speaking. Always trying to show me something. Eternal significance is always there. I’ve had a foundation for over 30 years, Jesus words from Matthew 6:33tpt, So above all, constantly chase after the realm of Gods kingdom and the righteous that proceeds from Him. Then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly.

    1. Thanks Jim! Yes Jesus is always speaking and always there with us. Yes and amen to seeking Him! Blessings to you!

  3. God provided for me to pay off the remainder of my business debt the week everything shut down in March. He provided work and financial blessing to be in a better place than before with an emergency fund. God gave me vision to write a book and an editor. It is finished today!

    1. That’s amazing! Thank you for sharing Jennifer! Incredible to be in a better place than before – and well done with your book! Wow! Blessings to you!

  4. Powerful word, I loved the practical take on how we have to be “Noah” and put our money (or more accurately our time and sweat) into the promises and plans of God!

I know I see my greatest breakthroughs and blessings when I work into God’s promises in their due time and have weathered this quarantine better than expected because of it!

    Blessings,
    Caleb Fast
