Instant Success is Foolish Business

Do you panic when short-term events are forced into a long term vision? It takes a strong faith in what you’ve planned to pursue what God has for you. I love 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, “but he said to me my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” We’re going to take a hard look at the wisdom of preparing for long term success instead of living in a place where we are constantly letting panic consume us while hoping for instant success and finances.

My life verse is Proverbs 3:5 and 6, “trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not unto your own understanding in all your ways acknowledge him or submit to him and he will make your path straight.” In these issues where the tyranny of the urgent comes in, I usually work to trust in the Lord and look for direction for a straight and healthy path. But often it is hard to trust in those moments. We panic when hope for “instant success” becomes delayed. I think that hoping for instant success is based out of the poverty mentality that says “there is not enough,” or “I need more than I have now.” So, we need to step back and realign our trust in a Father who loves and cares for us. The temptation is to make short-term decisions like decreasing spending or other choices that would actually be worse for the business. These short-term fixes are more detrimental in hindsight.

We need to be surrounded by other people, whether they’re our coworkers, our mentors, or our subordinates who will give us courage not to be faint hearted in times of trial. I want to encourage you to include more people so that your decision is made with a group of wise counselors. We can have a perfect plan, but there are going to be some roadblocks. This is when we turn to the Scriptures and more experienced council.

If you are facing a financial crisis, hopefully, it’s going to allow you to find a solution and adjust so that you can understand what went wrong and build something that is more steady for the future. The same effect is if you’re dealing with pain in your body. When the pain becomes unbearable, you’re going to pray for it, you’re going to ask someone else to pray for it, you’re going to go to the doctor, or you’re going to go to physical therapy. Financial pain is a signal that there is a problem that needs attention and can be healed in a deep way, so that it doesn’t keep happening over and over. Sometimes this problem is actually fear, or fear of lack that causes us to act as if we are orphans. But, if God can heal your body, surely he can also provide practical miracles in financial turmoil. I encourage you to trust in the Lord and seek counsel for the long game! You need to rely on his timing and ignore the temptation to race to the top. I have seen time and time again that trying to climb too quickly to the top, will cause any of us to fall.

  1. Thank you for the encouraging words.
I know that my fear issue is actually caused by lack of trust in God. I heard countless times about the orphan spirit and I prayed about it often. Trust is something that I must embrace and deal with to overcome fear and anxiety in my finances. And the best way to deal with it is by developing an intimate relationship with the Father.

    1. You’re welcome! I believe you can overcome the fear with connection! God is your best support system as you learn to grow in trust. I believe he wants to bring encouragement to you as well. Thank you for sharing!
